For Sale

The shutter of the shop opens with a clanking sound of metal. Bright light enters the room blinding the eye of the observer.
Screams from the crowd can be heard," 1 for 10 rupees". They all seemed busy with their bargains and debates.
Light from outside seemed to embrace a figure. A dark silhouette. It looked like a man, 6 feet tall.

He enters the room and shuts the shutter. The commotion from outside fades. Rooms artificial light adjusts to its surrounding. A well-lit room painted white on all four walls, ceiling and floor. Walls of this room were plain. No paintings, no photos, just plain white. There were no hooks or holders to place a bulb. Room was well lit nonetheless.

The man who entered the room looked like a businessman, probably from some big MNC. He was well built, young, in his 30's, well dressed. The dress itself said a lot. He had put on an Armani suit, Gucci shoes and had an Omega dangling on his left hand, which had a briefcase, A Louis Vuitton. His eyes were not visible under his Police sunglasses. His hair was neatly trimmed and combed. Looked like he was a very important person of this company.

There were a white table and chair on the north-east corner of the room. A bed near it as well. The bed was covered with white sheets, a white pillow. A petite man was laying on it. He seemed an exact antonym of this one. He was bearded, long hair with a tint of baldness, looked almost in his 50's. He noticed the businessman.

The businessman walks towards him. The sound of his boot and the muffled screams of the people outside was the only thing being heard. He drags the chair and puts it near the bed. He takes his seat without uttering a word.
The petite man now pulls himself and sits in his bead leaning on the wall behind him. The businessman removes his shades. Sparkling eyes. He was handsome indeed. With a sly look on his, he places the shades on the table.
The businessman was the first to speak." So, have you decided on our little deal yet.”?
"I still cannot possibly think of doing it", replied the other.

Businessman: "You see, this deal could help us both out. This sale could make both of our lives better."
The old man: "I am taking all that into consideration, but I still can't come into a conclusion. I feel like I would be betraying the whole world to you."
Businessman: "Haven't you realized it yet. You can't stand alone in this world."
The old man: (with remorse) "I have. I have. That is the only reason you are beside me."

The old man looks down with despair. He seemed lost.
Businessman: “You don't know the potential of your dream. Sell it to me. Our company could make the world a better place. The dream you saw, is beyond the scope of your limit. We could make it come true. We have the potential, the resources and manpower to make it true."
The old man: “I still don't know. I am completely in a dilemma."
Businessman: “You tried to make this possible. You failed. You sacrificed lots of lives for this. You could not handle the power of your own dream."

The businessman kept his hand on the old man's knees

Businessman: "Sell it to us. We offer you peace and along with it, you will be paid handsomely."

He picks up his suitcase, opens it and takes out an envelope. He gazes at it for a second and hands it over to the old man.

Businessman: "Here. Take a look at this."

The old man slowly lifts his head. His face is all gloomy. He accepts the envelope. His hand didn't let him open it. He held the envelope in his hand.
Businessman: “It’s just an offer, you can reject it if you don't feel right. Just open it."

With trembling hands, he starts to tear open the envelope. The businessman looked at him like a predator gazing its prey. He had a sleek smile. He knew he could manipulate the old man now.
The old man opens the envelope and finds a leaflet. A leaflet with a huge number on it. It was a bank cheque, with his name on it.

Businessman: "that's the offer the company has placed now. This is much more than what the previous companies had offered you, isn't it? I can see that from your eyes."
The old man: (in hush tone)" yes!"
Businessman: "So? Is it a yes or no?"

The old man was in more dilemma now. He couldn't just betray everyone, but the offer was so tempting. The looks at the cheque and then looks up, closes his eyes. Sweat was running down his forehead.

Finally, he decides to give in. the man was right. He couldn't make it. He failed. He lost his friends, his family and his colleagues. He sacrificed them for this. But the results were nothing.

The old man: “Yes. I will sell you the dream."
Businessman: (Delighted) "Excellent!"
The old man reaches under his pillow and grabs a notebook. A little red notebook. The book was no more than 50 pages. He hands it over to the businessman.

The businessman takes the book and flips from cover to cover. He places it in his suitcase and gets up.

Businessman: “Very well then. Have a good life."

The old man's eyes fill with tears.

The businessman leaves the rooms with the suitcase. He opens the shutter. The same blinding light, the same screams, again.

The little red book in the suitcase had something written on it. It read "COMMUNIST MANIFESTO".

The shutter closes from outside and the room becomes dark.
